Creating Category Listings in WordPress

Creating a category list for a post category, for example your news feed or your blog, is very is to carry out in WordPress. And MyBandTheme makes it just a bit better, by adding a professionally designed layout to your list of posts, as you can see on this demo site.

Creating such a listing of posts is literally a 2 step process. Before anything else though, you need to have already created a WordPress post category, and have at least 1 post in the given category.

Once you have your category set up, and have written at least one post assigned to that category, you’ll need to do the following:

  1. In your WordPress administration dashboard, go to Appearance > Menus. You should have already created your top navigational menu bar, but if not, go ahead and do it now.
  2. You’ll need to place the category you created into your navigational menu. You can place it as a main menu, or a sub-menu item, it’s up to you and your requirements. Remember to save once your menu item is in place
  3. And thats all there is to it.

Here is a helpful screenshot to guide you in creating the category menu item in WordPress:

Of course, you don’t actually need to place your category into the menu bar to have this working, you can simply link to your category URL, and the same listing layout will be generated. You’ll find the URL of the given category in Posts > Categories.

As you can see, WordPress makes it very easy to build a fully functional website, and of course, our band website template takes care of the actual design and layout.
